WHO WAS JACK OF NEWBURY?

Jack of Newbury—aka John Winchcombe—is one of Berkshire's biggest success stories.

Born in the late 15th century, Jack started as a weaver in his fathers business & went on to build one of England’s largest weaving workshops right here in Newbury.

Jack's attention to detail & service made Newbury famous for top-quality cloth - even Thomas Cromwell was a client.

He became very wealthy & lived in a huge house just a few metres away from our barbers shop on Northbrook Street.

BUILT ON QUALITY, SERVICE & COMMUNITY

But Jack's success wasn’t just about a quality business — it was about community.

His workshop was a buzzing social hub where workers, traders, & merchants swapped stories & shared laughs while they worked.

It was a place to be—a space where people felt welcome, got great service & left looking sharp in the finest cloth of the day.

I’ve run my own barbers for many years & understand a successful barbers is about more than just quality haircuts.

I want to create an environment where everyone feels welcome & relaxed.

Hey I’m Sam - I’ll be the first guy you see as you walk into Jack of Newbury.

I trained at the London School of Barbering and worked in London for several years before moving to Newbury.

My life-passion is music, and discovering new artists & bands.

As well as swapping playlist tips, I'll help you with anything from shaping up an out-of-control beard to creating you a totally new style.

Hello I’m Suzan I’ve been part of the team here for a couple of years & enjoy the buzzy friendly atmosphere at Jack of Newbury.

I’ve worked as a barber for over 10 years & create everything from quality classic cuts to fresh fades.
